Still Making face Jugs

I've been busy with so many things and realized that I'd not opened this for far too long.  I ought to make it clear that I am still enjoying my friends the face jugs and their family is growing.  They are yarn bowls (picture to come) and dog biscuit jars (below - can't wait for firing), and more egg separators (five in a row!), and now.  My next show is in October and I'm working hard to have plenty of fun on my table - more details will follow, but here are a few pictures of the current work.

The Spring 2014 Mountainside Pottery Show is coming!

The guys are getting ready for a party!  The Next Mountainside show, hosted by the Potters' Guild of New Jersey runs on the last weekend of  April.  Once again, the show will be held at the Community Presbyterian Church at 1459 Deer Path in Mountainside, NJ (corner of Deer Path and Meeting House Lane).  The dates ar Saturday, April 26 (11AM to 5PM) and Sunday, April 27 (Noon to 5PM).

More previews to come!

Feeling Honored!

Mimi Stadler Pottery

This is where you will find a post from a fellow Potters'Guild pf NJ that includes a few of the family.  I'm feeling really good about Ms. Stadler including me in the company of 4 other potters for whom I hold a great of deal of respect..... OK - it's probably envy.  All the more reason to feel pretty darn good about being there!

Carlton, Stanford and Xavier

And the  family keeps growing - I'm looking forward to a lot of giggles and big mustaches this year.  And now I understand why men have all those mustache styles - facial hair is FUN!

Next Show is less than a week away!

Sunday, December 8 from 11 am to 5 pm.

The Icehouse Pottery Studio will host its 6th Annual Holiday Show and Sale of functional and sculptural ceramics at their studio.  The show will showcase locally made pottery by 15 potters and ceramic artists, the sale will offer a chance to meet the makers.

This increasingly popular event draws hundreds of customers from northeast New Jersey and the nearby New York areas. The show is the perfect place to find a unique handmade holiday gift or a special item or present for any occasion.

The show is easily accessible from Route 287; take exit 53, turn right and travel 0.6 miles. From Route 23, take Newark Pompton Turnpike, turn right at the light and go 0.4 miles. Icehouse Studio is the red brick building on the right, just past the railroad track.

There will be a few face jugs there - Salt and Pepper Shakers, Face bells, soap pumps, and a full size  face jug or two!  Hope to see you there!

Face Jugs are now Face Shot Glasses

Someone told me once I "couldn't" make face jugs small enough for toothpick holders.  I made 3 that night.

The next day a friend complimented my "shot glasses" in an e-mail and I informed her she must have been looking on someone else's shelves... and steamed about who was trying to steal my thunder at the studio.  Then I realized.  They WERE mine.

So - for teetotalers - of course they are tooth pick holders - wouldn't make anything else.

But for those who like a good drinking game during a silly TV Show - they so like a little something stronger... just every now and then.

Adopted by Jen's daughter for her roommates.

Big mouth jar

Although Marquis Mushie D'Smudge is curious, this fella was adopted by Kody, December 2012

Face Jugs go "On the Road!" in Princeton, NJ

I've been invited to  show the face jugs at the Arts Council of Princeton Holiday show!  I'm very flattered to have this attention.  If you want to meet some of the family and have never been able to get to North NJ, then maybe Princeton will be more convenient for you:
      November 30-December 22, 2012
      Arts Council of Princeton
Paul Robeson Center for the Arts
      102 Witherspoon Street
      Princeton, NJ 08540
      609-924-8777 for information.

I won't be there but the kids promised no long distance calls and no wild parties!  However, if you want to invite them to your house for those delights... that'd be great!

Upper Saddle River Art Show

The Anual Art Show hosted by Friends of the Library opens today (May 6, 2012) with a reception from 2-4PM. Fifty Upper Saddle River New Jersey artists will be showcased and I'm one of them. This is my first year so I'm looking forward to seeing what the show is like. All I had to do was drop off the work and promise to be on hand for the reception. I'm looking forward to the event! The show is on until May 25.

The choir ended up adopted at the Princeton show, winter 2012.

Walter is done!

Walter wants to be sure you know that the Potters' Guild of NJ Mountainside Show is April 21 and 22, 2012.  Go to http://www.pottersguildnj.org/EventIframe.aspx for the details and directions!

Workshop!

Today I saw my first real live face jug potter at work and created Walter under his instruction - I am newly inspired and look forward to adding to the family soon!  I know there's already a Walter in the family, but this fella INSISTED his name was Walter, too- nothing else would do. Look for him fired and glazed in the net couple of weeks and then I bet he'll have some new relatives soon after.....

The potter was Greg LaPlaca - check him out here:

New faces in the family

New for  the Mountainside Show on April 21st and 22nd, 2012:
Salt and Pepper shakers - It's the first time a little girl gnome has introduced herself.
The yarn bowls delight in blowing yarn out their noses (so much tidier than milk.)
Details on the show to follow soon, but don't hesitate to visit http://www.pottersguildnj.org and see their events page for info right away!

Next Show

Happy New Year! The shows for this year are lining up and the next one is in Mountainside, NJ on Saturday and Sunday, April 21 & 22, 2012. I've got some new items that I'm going to premiere there... no hints yet, though. I'm still glazing and don't want to jinx the results!

The Shows are over for 2011

The 2011 Mountainside and Icehouse Pottery shows are over.  It's time to start playing the mud in earnest.  Hope you'll be back occasionally to see who's been born for the 2012 shows!  Thanks to you all who have come here to visit and especially to those who have stopped by a table or show, met me and my friends and then come here to see the family albums.

Happy Whatever-the Holiday-you-celebrate.  But from me - Merry Christmas! - because I think that everything that can be made right is folded into those words.  Whether you believe in a jolly man who breaks into your house to eat cookies and leave tokens of love, or a baby who grew up to make a difference by doing what was right.  Both of them were thinking of others first and that's what can fix the world.

Preview of what's to come

Time for a preview of the work I'm doing right now!  The family is expanding.... and I think they're a fun bunch for sure.

I'll be at Applefest with Fired Arts Collective in Warwick, NY in October, then hopefully Mountainside with the Potters' Guild of NJ in  November, and certainly with Icehouse Pottery in December in Riverdale, NJ.  That all means I need to have plenty of work ready since my day job stops me from putting in long hours to replenish between the shows.

So, take a look at the shot glassses, toothpick holders, and soap pumps I'm working on - so far, so good!

Salt and Pepper Shakers!

At Mountainside, I was asked to create face jug S/P shakers - so I did. Look for them at the next show!

Too late for the brown set - they've been adopted by Jack and Harriet. May 2011

Icehouse Pottery Show - Finished for another few months at least!

We closed the show at 5PM tonight - another successful year; it's always so nice to leave with empty boxes rather than the heavy boxes we lugged in. Looks like we have two new members and a possible 3 more. They found out about us through various sources - friends, Internet, publications, and newsletters. That, on top of the members culling their stock and making room for their next best idea ever.... it's been a great year and it's all looking up.

Day One - Icehouse Pottery Show

Mother Nature chose today to invite Old Man Winter into our house. While our visitors were steady, we'd hoped for more and look forward to tomorrow, once this weather turns into nothing. The up side is that several prospective members visited and checked us out; no one felt rushed and it was a lotof fun talking to them. There are some really interesting people thrilled to find a studio with openings in their own neighbourhood. The coming year looks fine indeed!
